Detox & Cleanse Drink Recipe – Secrets of healthy living.
Detoxify, cleanse & nourish your body from the inside out first thing in the morning with this all-natural homemade elixir!
How you start your day sets the tone for the rest of your day!
It could be a simple 5-minute stretch as you roll off the bed or an elaborate 1.5 – 2 hrs of morning rituals like mine. Nope, not exaggerating, I have built up to it over the years.
If you are one to wake up in the morning and simply head for a cup of coffee or tea as your first drink, then think again, do your research, and make necessary changes to your morning routine (and what you consume).
I will be sure to share exact details about my daily morning routine and rituals in a separate post, but in this post, I want to talk more about the most demanded recipe —
My morning elixir aka morning detox cleanse aka morning tonic aka morning concoction (or as my little one calls it SPICCCY ;)), call it whatever you fancy, but the bottom line is that it gets the job done and sets the right tone for my body at the start of the day (if nothing else).
P.S. Nope, this isn’t a ‘do it once a week or for a week and expect a miracle’ type of thing or trend. Healthy living and lifestyle is a choice we make every day, and just one drink does not make or break your health. But it all certainly adds up, and just like with everything else, moderation and consistency is really the key.
What started as drinking a warm glass of water first thing in the morning (when I was in 5th grade, thanks to my history teacher, Meena Mohan ma’am, introducing me to the concept) has now ended up becoming a 7-10 ingredients morning elixir (again, I have built it up over the years) that I highly regard and consider truly sacred, especially given the essence of each of its ingredients, and their undeniable and innumerable health benefits.
And I am so dang proud to say that the hubs and my parents too start their day by drinking a version of this elixir (based on what they are capable of ingesting given their age).
When you look closely at each of the ingredients in my morning detox elixir, they have all been an integral part of ‘Ayurvedic Lifestyle’ for thousands of years, and for good reason! And all of these ingredients are a staple in an Indian household like mine.
“Ayurveda, or ayurvedic medicine, is a healthy-lifestyle system that people in India have used for more than 5,000 years. Ayurveda emphasizes good health and prevention and treatment of illness through lifestyle practices (such as massage, meditation, yoga, and dietary changes) and the use of herbal remedies. It aims to preserve health and wellness by keeping the mind, body, and spirit in balance and preventing disease rather than treating it.”
- Warm Water
- Apple Cider Vinegar, Organic Raw Unfiltered with ‘The Mother’, 1-2 tablespoon
- Lemon juice
- Cinnamon Powder
- Cayenne Pepper
- Coconut oil
- Black Pepper
- Sea Salt
Honestly, I do not measure anything but simply eyeball it, I add everything to warm water, mix it up real well and use a straw to drink it (given how acidic this elixir is you want to protect your teeth, hence the straw). With some trial and error, you too will find the right balance as far as the quantity of each ingredient goes.
I can’t stress enough that moderation is key with consuming all of the above ingredients or it can do more harm than good, also the quality of the ingredients matter, so be wary of that.
P.P.S. Please do not feel overwhelmed (or discouraged) by the long list of ingredients in this morning detox elixir recipe, start small with maybe 2-3 ingredients, and slowly build on it. It also depends on your individual preferences.
Morning Elixir / Detox ingredients are all organized and stored in a prominent section of our kitchen counter for easy access in the mornings.
