Dear Instagram, Step The Heck Up, It’s 2020!
Who else feels defeated and hates having to use Instagram because IG and it’s algorithms are royally messed up?
Dear Instagram, Step The Heck Up, It’s The Year 2020!
💔 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱, 𝗙𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱, 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 💔
Just a few of the many adjectives that are used daily by a majority of Instagram users who use the platform ‘to do their job’! I read 100’s of messages every single day in groups where IG’ers fret about how messed up IG is & how defeated they feel.
Account 1: Takes a quick outfit pic, throws on a filter, uploads with barely a caption but links to all the products… garners 5, 20, 50K likes & 1000’s of comments within mins!
Account 2: Spends hrs coming up with creative content, shooting, editing, crafting a thoughtful caption to genuinely add value & inspire others… hrs later, still crickets!
This is exactly why several people feel defeated, thanks IG!
Nothing, absolutely nothing we do is good enough, unless we are part of ‘an elite club’ or do giveaways upon giveaways!
Sure, there are a few exceptions, but just a handful…
Likes, comments & engagement do NOT decide someone’s worth, how talented they are, or how valuable their content really is, but when you (Instagram) do NOT put ‘valuable’ content in front of people who already follow us but you (Instagram) are only hell-bent on pushing products, then it does get on one’s nerves & makes us question why we even have to spend hours putting out content on this platform.
As unfortunate as it is, I’ve firsthand witnessed how this is also impacting people’s mental health! ;(
This hits even harder when Instagram is also ‘part of our job’ & our bread & butter. One could probably care less if this was just a side hustle or just ‘social media’.
Now it’s NONE of my damn business to tell anyone how to use Instagram – what to post, what NOT to post, how often to post, who to follow & engage with etc, etc. What any of us choose to consume on this platform & who we ‘follow’ on social media is totally up to the individual.
I know, the bottom line of this platform is ‘to sell products’ but isn’t there a moral obligation to use any platform ‘more responsibly’ to do some kind of ‘good’ when possible!?
I genuinely ask?
So Dear @instagram if we don’t learn from the lessons that 2020 is teaching us then I don’t know what else will?
Many are ‘looking within & doing the work’, about damn time you did too!!!
Also, how are you missing the most basic point that the more you put our content in front of all the more we will all use your platform? That’s not rocket science! Or am I missing something here!?
P.S. I am not discounting how Instagram is ‘amazing’ in so many ways & connects people from all over, but there is only so long you can ride on that wave!
