1. SWITCH TO HYDRATING GENTLE CLEANSER
Use a hydrating cream cleanser which will remove all impurities, make-up, and dirt without stripping your skin off of necessary oils but will leave your skin feeling fresh and replenished.
2. UP YOUR EXFOLIATION GAME
Exfoliate your skin at least 2-3 times a week to remove dead skin and clear your pores. Be sure to use gentle exfoliators that do not irritate your skin. If you overdo it then it can cause redness and/or make your skin even drier.
3. USE FACIAL STEAMER
At least once a week use an at-home-steamer to dig deeper (literally and figuratively) to remove all the dead skin, blackheads and build up. Plus, steaming also helps clear your pores and thus helps your skin to absorb the products you apply well. TIP: Add essential oils for added benefit.
4. HYDRATING MASK
Apply a DIY face mask that you can quickly make at home using ingredients from your kitchen or use a store-bought mask. Or better yet, simply slap on a sheet mask, Netflix and chill! You know for that extra oomph, both for your skin and soul 😉 Plus, who doesn’t love a good pamper sesh!?
5. APPLY TONER, SERUM AND RICH MOISTURIZER
Toners help to close pores and tighten cell gaps after cleansing and hence reduces the penetration of impurities and dirt into the skin. It also helps maintain the skin’s PH balance.
Serum penetrates deep into your skin and increases nourishment and strengthens your skin.
Use deep moisturizing creams in Fall as opposed to the light ones you use in Summer. TIP: Opt for a moisturizer that already includes SPF.
6. USE FACIAL OIL
Adding facial oil to your Fall skin care regimen is really key. They not only hydrate your skin but also provides the necessary nutrients and fatty acids.
You can apply facial oil as a layer over your moisturizer or simply add a few drops to your moisturizer before applying onto your skin and you are good.
7. TAKE CARE OF YOUR LIPS
Do not forget your lips, they are the ones to quickly give away how healthy or unhealthy your skin is. A put-together face with chapped lips is no fun. Condition your lips every night (and each morning before applying lipstick). Use a balm that will do the work for you while you sleep, or better yet use a lip mask.
8. SUNSCREEN IS A MUST
It might not be sunny but cloudy or even raining, but ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS wear sunscreen (read more about it here). TIP: Use a moisturizer that has SPF or use my favorite sunscreen which doubles as a primer and is NOT at all greasy or looks all white-ish.
9. CARE FOR YOUR BODY
Do NOT only focus on your face and neglect your body. If anything those dry legs, hands, and back are the ones that itch more than your face. Skip long, hot showers and opt for short lukewarm showers as hot water will strip all the essential oils away and makes your skin more dry and flaky.
Use gentle moisturizing body wash, apply a good moisturizer all over your body, and body oil is a huge bonus. When possible use a dry brush before showering, at least twice a week. And when time permits enjoy a bath soak (hopefully once a week), preferably with essential oils and bath salts.
10. HYDRATE & EAT FOODS THAT PROMOTE HEALTHY SKIN
Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and glowing from within. Include nutrient-rich foods like avocados, nuts, beets, sweet potatoes, squash, etc. into your diet which nourishes your body and keeps your skin healthy from the inside out.
