Ever since Aarush came into our lives, one of my biggest learning’s has been, well, learning from him (meaning, the whole ‘things to learn from your kids’ bit). It’s true, our kids are indeed our greatest teachers as they teach us the most valuable life lessons, big and small, as long as we are willing to observe, listen, and learn.

One such huge lesson that I have learned from my kiddo is simply to have fun, no matter the place, no matter the constraints, and no matter the circumstances (rain or shine). Just let go of all your inhibitions, apprehensions, feelings of discomfort, and simply.have.fun!

Speaking of unfavorable situations and rain, it rains for 8 out of 12 months in Seattle, and Vinay and I are not huge fans of the rain. Sure, we do love to get wet occasionally when it’s raining for a just a little bit but going about our lives like its just another day like most true Pacific North Westerners do just isn’t our thing. And it’s been 3+ years since we moved to this rainy Seattle.

But thanks to our little guy we are slowly warming up to the idea of not letting rain dictate how we do life! Aarush wants to be out and about, rain or shine, there’s nothing stopping him; he doesn’t care how gloomy the day is, or how crappy it looks outside. He doesn’t let the outside world dictate how his day goes, he, and only he does! And that is a huge takeaway for me as his mom, in more ways than one.

And I have come to realize that a good raingear makes all the difference to ensure that you have the most amount of fun when you are outside in the rain without feeling miserable, thank you Joules!

Playing in the puddle – hop, skip, jump and splash
Make paper boats (or use leaves) and row them gently down the stream (used to be my favorite thing to do when I was a kid)
Create music – bring household objects outside to hear the various sounds/music that raindrops make against different surfaces
Make rainbow – bring sidewalk chalk, food color or washable markers and create artwork in the rain.
Catch raindrops with tongue or other toys.
Go for a walk/run by the lake and listen to the ducks go quack quack quack
Build mud castles or make mud pies and decorate them
